There may already be dormant stem cells in the brain

Study implies that stem cells may secrete a molecule that wakes dormant brain stem cells.

HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) has an interesting theory however empirical data suggests that it doesn’t work.  I always liked the theory, but never understood why increasing the amount of oxygen in your blood would cause dormant brain cells to take up extra oxygen.  Maybe because they can?  Or maybe some twisted version of Le Chatlier’s principle? Or PV=nRT, where n is oxygen.  Since I don’t do well with pressure changes, I decided to substitute aerobic exercise.

Medical Marijuana

Reviews of marijuana’s effect on brain injury have been published here and here

The main components in marijuana are THC and CBD. CBD is introduced in this article They are used to treat a number of issues including pain, mood, and nausea.  In the brain. they are involved in the endocanibus system, which is implicated in mood, reward, sexuality, reproduction, and immunology.  One article explains why THC is considered psychoactive and CBD is not.  Basically THC activates the CB1 receptors in the brain, whereas CBD inhibits them. Interactions between CBD and neurotransmitters have been studied.

The Endocannibus System

The endocannibus system is located in the brain and the periphery.  So far two receptors have been found – CB1 and CB2.   These are G-coupled receptors usually involved in homeostasis, and has been described  as a “dimmer” switch controlling other signals.
